River & Wren Travels to Cootamundra

Although River & Wren is based in Wagga Wagga we have formed a lovely relationship with the Shire of Cootamundra - a vibrant little town about an hour north of Wagga Wagga, in NSW, Australia.

After a very successful market in 2014, the Cootamundra Shire Council invited River & Wren to return to Cootamundra in 2015 to organise a market in conjunction with the Coota Bike Festival and TASTE Riverina.

The market was held on Saturday, 24 October 2015 at the historic and beautiful Cootamundra Public School in the centre of town.  With almost 50 market shops the market was enjoyed by both Cootamundra residents and people who travelled some distance to come to our market.

The majority of the products on sale at the market were homemade and ranged from jewellery, to homewares, outdoor art, candles, toys, clothing, soaps, bags, plants and these gorgeous floral posies created by a local florist.

TASTE Riverina is a festival held during October each year that celebrates the year's harvest while showcasing the region's food, wine, beer and agricultural produce.  Our market was a TASTE Riverina event and many of our market shops sold not only food and drink to consume at the market but also local homemade products and home grown produce to take home to stock pantries.

Cootamundra is fortunate to have an active dramatic arts group of talented young people who provided our market entertainment.  The incredibly talented CADAS Kids (Cootamundra Amateur Dramatic Arts Inc) entertained our market crowd with living statues and juggling and they kept the children happy with face painting.

Being an outdoors market we were fortunate to be blessed with a lovely spring day and an abundance of sunshine.  Andrew, our snow cone man, was busy making snow cone men which amused both the young and the old!

The Coota Bike Festival was an integral part of our market with the rides starting and finishing at the market.   Riders in lycra were seen wandering throughout the market all day and they all seemed to enjoy at least one sausage sandwich, cooked by the 1st Cootamundra Scout group, when they returned from their ride.

Cootamundra loves a market and after another successful market day we're now working on a date for River & Wren to return to Cootamundra in 2016.
