A Beautiful Country Handmade Market
Everybody loves a country handmade market!
Fortunately I didn't have to wander far to explore this country handmade market!
The River & Wren Boutique Market held its first market of the year in Wagga Wagga two weekends ago. The weather gods blessed us with a glorious day and the community came out in droves to support our market.
I will admit right now that River & Wren is the market that I run! A bit of blatant promotion here! Anyway ...
River & Wren is held in the Kyeamba Smith Hall at the Wagga Wagga Showground.
River & Wren is a handmade, homemade and homegrown market. A beautiful, predominantly indoor market, we're held bi-monthly. As it's far too hot during January and February, we wait until March to begin our market year.
Our March market had almost 90 shops of local and regional handmade gorgeousness. Everything from jewellery, clothing, millinery, upcycled and recycled furniture, homewares, beauty products, artworks, stationery and paper art, bags, candles, toys, outdoor garden art, plants ....
Our Food Hall was filled with divine local products - honey, olive oil, garlic, jams, salad dressings and sauces, salami, yummy baked goods that went straight to the hips, fruit & vegetables, native flowers and even fresh local meat!
A market is not a market without food so we brought back our Market Cafe and delicious food to lunch and snack on. The hot potatoes sold out, the woodfired pizza was delicious, a sweet fix came from the dutch pancakes and everyone loves a sausage sandwich from the Scout's BBQ!
And of course, you can't have a market without coffee!
Our market is very fortunate to be well supported by our local community and our crowds were huge! We heard stories of people travelling from all over the region to come to the market. We were even told that we had visitors from Sydney who timed their visit to Wagga around River & Wren! How very exciting for our market!!
A full carpark meant that our market shops were kept busy all day.
Our fabulous handmade market can best be shown by pictures ...
Our gorgeous creators go to such an effort to create beautiful market shops.
We had so many talented new creators at our March market.
I so wish I had a little person to buy for .....
With the Wagga Gold Cup coming up, several local milliners were selling their amazing race day creations.
I forgot to buy my fresh and local fruit and vegetables but I saw lots of people who did remember!
One of the first things I do at every market is ask Karrindee Blooms to put a bunch of their divine native flowers aside for me. If I don't get in early I miss out!
We were SO excited to have WIN News Riverina visit the market to talk to several of our talented creators and promote the importance of markets to local communities.
How cute is this kitten! We like to support a community organisation at each of our markets. The Snowy Mountain Animal Rescue Team (SMART) came to our March market and were thrilled to find forever homes for a cat and a dog! So thrilled they want to come back to our next market!
The newly re-turfed (is that a word?) lawn at the front of the market was used by many of our customers. Thanks Wagga Show Society - it looks fabulous!
So that was our March market! Did you visit us?
Now on to planning for our next market on 23 April .... just in time for Mother's Day!!
