The River & Wren Market Story
There’s something very special about a market. A market is like magic, filled with possibility and excitement. I am probably at my happiest when rummaging through a market – stall after stall, unearthing new and interesting things, immersing myself in the atmosphere and the spirit of the community.
Markets are my passion. I’ve been visiting markets ever since I was a little girl. I’ve tracked them down all over the globe with my sixth sense for markets. And when I lived in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, a weekend was just not complete without a Saturday morning stroll through Paddington Market and my ritual hot chocolate with friends.
I love the anticipation of walking into a market and not knowing what I might discover or which way to turn first. I love the smells and sounds – the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the hum of the crowd. I love the colour and movement of a market.
Most of all, I love how a market brings people together – the vibrant and passionate creators, makers and growers alongside a community of people of all ages, interests and background who are just as curious and taken by the experience as me.
That’s what inspired me to start River & Wren Market and it’s what keeps me going and striving to improve. Quite simply, I want to bring to life a place where our community comes together every two months to enjoy the social, sensory and retail therapy of a fun, friendly and happy artisan market.
When it comes to curating River & Wren Market, my approach is simple: handmade, homemade, homegrown, only the very best quality, a diverse range of on-trend products, and local and regional where possible.
I work hard to bring the people of our community a unique market they can enjoy, and I am delighted by how creators and the public alike have embraced River & Wren – growing from 55 market shops at our first market to 125+ market shops at our Christmas markets and 5,000 people through the gates.
As a market lover, this is so exciting for me and also for the many creators who are part of the River & Wren story.
Come, enjoy the magic – I look forward to seeing you at the market.
